Welcome to Legendary Mythics

Elias Blackwood

Hello, I’m Elias Blackwood — and if you’ve landed here, there’s a good chance you share my lifelong obsession with the stories that have haunted, inspired, and shaped humanity for thousands of years. Welcome. You’re in the right place.

Who I Am

I’ve spent the last 20 years as a mythology researcher and storyteller, cataloging creatures, legends, and ancient tales from virtually every corner of the world. My research and reading span comparative mythology, cultural anthropology, and folklore studies — interests that have taken me from library archives to remote villages in Greece, Japan, West Africa, and Scandinavia, where oral traditions are still very much alive. I’ve pored over crumbling manuscripts, sat with local storytellers, and cross-referenced ancient texts across dozens of traditions. Mythology isn’t just my subject. It is, honestly, my entire world.

Why I Started This Site

For years, I watched mythology get reduced to glossy blockbusters and oversimplified listicles that stripped away all the texture and meaning that make these stories extraordinary. The real myths — the ones whispered across generations, the ones that explain grief and creation and the terrifying unknown — deserve better than that. I started Legendary Mythics because I wanted one trustworthy place where curious readers could explore mythology and folklore the way it was meant to be explored: deeply, respectfully, and without dumbing it down.

What You’ll Find Here

Legendary Mythics covers the full, glorious sweep of world mythology and folklore. You’ll find deep dives into legendary creatures — from the kitsune of Japanese legend to the fearsome Ammit of ancient Egypt. You’ll discover ancient tales and their cultural context, profiles of gods and tricksters and monsters, and explorations of how these stories connect across vastly different civilizations. Whether you’re a lifelong mythology enthusiast or someone who just stumbled across a story that sparked your curiosity, there is something here for you.

My Approach

Everything I publish here is grounded in genuine research and real experience. When I recommend a book, a resource, or a tool for exploring mythology further, it’s because I’ve personally read it, used it, or thoroughly vetted it against my own academic knowledge. I won’t point you toward something just because it’s popular. My reputation — built over two decades of serious independent research — matters far more to me than a quick recommendation. You can trust that what you read on this site reflects my honest, considered perspective.

A Little About Me Beyond the Research

I live in the Pacific Northwest, where the misty forests and grey skies feel like the perfect backdrop for thinking about ancient things. When I’m not writing or researching, you’ll likely find me hiking those trails, sketching creature designs in a battered notebook, or drinking far too much coffee while reading translations of texts that most people have never heard of. What drives me, above everything else, is the belief that these old stories still have something urgent and real to say to us today. I intend to spend the rest of my life proving it.

Thank you for being here. Let’s explore the legends together.
